Holland Scholarship

The Holland Scholarship is a scholarship partially funded by the Dutch ministry of Education, Culture and Science and a number of participating Dutch Research Universities and Universities of applied sciences. Zuyd is proud to be one of the Universities offering a limited number of Holland Scholarships. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in Holland. The EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Zuyd University of Applied Sciences uses its Holland Scholarships and Zuyd Excellence Scholarships to attract excellent students from abroad who have an added value to higher education in the Netherlands and to the international classrooms within the English-taught programmes at Zuyd. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences offers approximately ten Holland Scholarships each year.

Scholarship amount
The Holland Scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this scholarship only during the first year of your study. Please note that this is not a full-tuition scholarship.

Application criteria

  • You are not a national of the EU/EEA or Switzerland
  • You are applying for a complete full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme and have received your Zuyd student number through www.studielink.nl
  • You meet the specific requirements of the programme and institution
  • The scholarships apply only to the government funded, international, fully English taught study Bachelor and Master programmes; European Studies, Hotel Management, Interdisciplinary Arts (iArts), International Business, Interior Architecture and Music Bachelor and Master)
  • You are required to pay the highest institutional tuition fees
  • You live in the Netherlands during your study period
  • You have never cut short a Zuyd programme without obtaining a degree
  • You can only be granted the Holland Scholarship if you have not previously obtained a degree from an education facility in the Netherlands

How to apply
Students who apply for Holland Scholarship before May 1st  are simultaneously applying for the Zuyd Excellence scholarship (combination grant). Holland Scholarship – Zuyd Excellence Applications received after May 1st will only be eligible for the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship. The final deadline for solely Zuyd Excellence Scholarships is December 1st

Awarding of the Holland Scholarship and/or Zuyd Excellence Scholarship

  • A committee of the International Office and the concerning faculty decides on the awarding and distribution of the scholarships among the applicants. They will make their selection based on the motivation and reference letters accompanying this registration form.
  • You will be notified of the scholarship awarding results by email:
    • before June 15th: in the case of the combination grant Holland Scholarship and Zuyd Excellence
    • within 6 weeks: in the case of solely the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship. 
  • An awarded Holland Scholarship amounts to €5000,- maximum per student and applies only for the first academic year
  • The maximum duration of a Zuyd Excellence Scholarship is the nominal duration of the programme concerned.
  • If you are not granted a scholarship, you may deregister for the programme without any further obligations before August 31st preceding the academic year for which you have registered.
